I grew up body-surfing at Bondi Beach and poking around tide pools long before I knew there was a career in it. Studied marine science at the University of Queensland, and everything clicked during a semester-long research expedition on the Great Barrier Reef -- that's when I fell completely in love with coral reef ecology. Now I work at a marine research institute in Sydney, spending half my time underwater collecting data on coral bleaching and the other half in the lab analyzing samples.

I'm pretty easygoing, I'll admit that. I'm the guy who shows up to a formal event in boat shoes and somehow makes it work, who laughs at his own jokes before finishing them, and who will absolutely turn any awkward silence into a conversation about why octopuses are basically aliens. I surf every morning before work, rain or shine. The ocean is my therapist, my gym, and my church.

But don't let the laid-back thing fool you -- I care deeply about ocean conservation. I volunteer for beach cleanups, give talks at local schools, and run a modest Instagram documenting marine life with goofy captions that hopefully make science accessible. The ocean gave me everything. I owe it to give something back.
